Microneedling vs RF microneedling: Traditional microneedling (micro needling) is a treatment that uses a roller outfitted with thin, small needles that pierce the skin. These skin needling punctures would cause bleeding and some discomfort, and came with risks of spreading bacteria, bruising, hyperpigmentation, and more.

Traditional microneedling can be painful, however, Novuskin’s advanced Radio Frequency with Microneedling treatment does not causes very little to no pain which can be controlled using a numbing agent.

If you’re currently on prescription medication, write down the name and use of the meds so your technician can be sure they don’t cause any contraindications to treatment. If possible, come to your treatment with clean skin. Try to avoid applying any lotions, powders, or makeup before your treatment, and avoid the sun for at least a few days beforehand. If you have a lot of hair in your treatment area, you may want to have it removed a week before your treatment so your skin is not obstructed.

Your session of Microneedling with Radio Frequency takes approximately 45 minutes of time.

Before your treatment, you’ll be taken to one of our comfortable treatment rooms. Your aesthetician will gently and thoroughly cleanse your skin and apply a numbing agent if necessary.

During your treatment, a hand held applicator is applied to the treatment area. The applicator is fitted with micropins that lay directly on the skin. Your aesthetician will deliberately move the applicator along the length of the treatment area, applying the Radio Frequency through the pins. You’ll likely feel a warm sensation and the application of the pins may feel slightly uncomfortable, like a pinprick. However, a numbing cream makes the treatment comfortable for most people.

After your treatment, you may feel a little like you have a sunburn, and your skin may be red and warm. This should disappear within 24 hours. A light fan may help you feel more comfortable. You’ll need to avoid putting anything on your skin for a full 24 hours. You should not even get your skin wet while the micro-punctures heal. Be sure to sleep on a freshly washed pillowcase the night after your treatment, and avoid contact with pets and other animals for a full 24 hours.

You should feel the micro needling effects almost immediately, especially tightened skin.

There isn’t a lot of recovery time or downtime for microneedling needed. Most people experience some slight redness after treatment, like a mild sunburn. Healing time will be about 24 hours. Your skin may also be slightly more sensitive than normal, however, you should still be able to return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.

Because this treatment is minimally-invasive, there’s very little you need to do after your treatment. All aftercare is meant to keep your skin free of bacteria while it heals.

What To Do After Radio Frequency Microneedling

• Keep your skin clean and as dry as possible for 24 hours.
• Change your pillow case the first 2 nights after treatment.
• Your aesthetician will give you clear aftercare instructions. Please ask any questions you might have and we’ll be happy to answer.

​​What Not to do After Professional Microneedling Procedure

• Following your treatment, avoid cosmetics for 24 hours until your skin’s surface has fully healed.
• Avoid exercise for 24 hours as the sweat may cause irritation or infection.
• Avoid hot tubs and hot baths or showers for 24 hours.

It’s generally recommended that, as part of a treatment plan, you have this treatment as often as once a month. However, your specific treatment plan, based on a skin analysis and your goals, should determine how often you should use RF Microneedling. How many RF Microneedling treatments are needed depends on the area treated and your goals. It usually takes 1-2 weeks to begin to see results and up to 4 weeks to see the full results of a treatment. Results are cumulative, so the more treatments you have, the more results you’ll see.

You’ll likely need more than 1 treatment to see optimal micro needling results. After your final treatment, you will need touch up treatments about every 6 months to maintain the look. Results are not permanent, but can be long-lasting, especially with follow up visits.

Radio Frequency Microneedling treatment is incredibly safe for all skin types and tones. There are very few dangers of microneedling. However, if you have any of these conditions, your technician may ask you to forgo your treatment. 

Contraindications

For safety reasons, you may not be able to get this treatment if you:

• Have a pacemaker or defibrillator, or other electrical implant.
• Have a rash or open wounds in the treatment area
• Have sunburn
• Have had cancer (either in the present or past)
• Have any metal plates, or permanent implants in the face or on the treatment area.
• Are pregnant or nursing
• Are otherwise sick or injured
• Have uncontrolled diabetes
• Are taking prescription medication to thin the blood
• Have had cosmetic injections including fillers within the past 2 weeks
• Have had surgical procedures in the past 3 months
• Have had other resurfacing treatments or chemical peels in the past 30 days
• Have tattoos in the treatment area
• Have a skin-related autoimmune disease such as lupus

RF Microneedling should not be used during pregnancy and may not be able to be used if you have fillers.

Side Effects of Microneedling

There are very few possible side effects of RF Microneedling. Some adverse effects could include an acne breakout after your treatment, small skin bumps or irritation, or hyperpigmentation.

The pros of RF Microneedling are that you’ll be receiving a very minimally-invasive treatment with very little downtime that’s highly effective and has many uses for treatment.
