What Are the Symptoms of Acne?
Acne is a common skin problem characterized by consistent breakouts of pimples and other acne sores. In some cases, such as acne rosacea, it can be accompanied by sore, irritated, red skin. Acne is more than just a nuisance that affects teenagers. Acne can lead to infections and complications in the skin and can result in permanent scarring.
Acne in teenagers, women, and men can cause:
- Sore, irritated face skin, often on the cheeks, forehead, and cheeks
- Clogged, pus-filled pores and hair follicles
- Pimples on nose, cheeks, chin, forehead, and around mouth and jawline
- Frequent facial flushing – flare ups of inflamed, red cheeks
- Infections under the skin
- Residual acne scarring from pimples and sores
Where does acne appear on the body?
Acne most commonly appears as bumps on the face; it can affect the cheeks, chin and jawline, forehead, around the mouth, and nose. Some people also suffer from body acne on the neck and shoulders, back, butt, chest, or breast.
If you’re experiencing rosacea anywhere on your face or body, there is help!

Acne Skincare
Acne is sometimes caused by poor skin hygiene, but often, it is just a symptom of overactive oil glands and naturally thick skin. In any case, regular and consistent skincare will help slow the production of sebum and keep the skin properly exfoliated and nourished. This will decrease the frequency and severity of pimple breakouts.
Novuskin developed our gentle CTREASURE skincare line that can be used every day. CTreasure is full of the world’s best skincare ingredients like caviar, apple stem cells, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and Matrixyl 3000. CTreasure is highly effective yet gentle enough to be used daily.
FAQs
What causes whiteheads?
Whiteheads appear as white, pus-filled bumps on the skin. They can sometimes ‘pop,’ and a milky-white oily fluid may spill out onto the skin. Everyone’s skin produces oil, however, some of us produce more than others. When our skin produces oil, it needs to escape out of the oil gland. But if our skin produces too much oil and the gland’s head is closed, the oil builds up underneath the skin, producing a whitehead.
Whiteheads can be reduced by exfoliating the skin so the top of the gland is free to allow the oil to escape.
Who typically gets pimples under skin?
Anyone can get pimples under their skin. While acne and pimples are more common in the teen years, people can get pimples at any age, for many reasons. One or two pimples, or the occasional pimple aren’t necessarily acne. Acne is a disease but a pimple may occur simply because the skin was clogged for some reason.
Pimples aren’t always caused by dirty skin, although that can be a reason. People who get pimples normally have dry to oily skin and have oil glands that overproduce sebum.
Acne Removal Recovery Time
Your acne removal recovery time varies depending on the treatment you have, however, most treatments Novuskin offers require little to no recovery time.
Non-invasive treatments like hydradermabrasion, IPL, LED, radio frequency, and other facials for acne require no downtime and no recovery time. However, more aggressive laser pimple removal treatments such as GentleMax Pro or Frax Laser may require a few days of time when the skin may be red or sore.
None of our treatments require bed rest or other lengthy recovery periods.
How long does it take to treat acne?
No one’s skin is exactly like someone else’s, so treatment times vary. Most of our treatment plans involve monthly treatments and regular homecare to help fight acne. Depending on your skin concerns and goals, it make take 3-12 months to resolve your acne or heal your acne scarring, and ongoing care may be recommended.
Does treatment for acne hurt?
Most acne treatment does not hurt. However, some treatments may be less comfortable than others. Treatments like hydradermabrasion, LED, and radio frequency do not cause any pain.
Chemical peels may cause some minimal discomfort which is well-tolerated by most people.
IPL may be minimally painful. It may feel like the treatment area is being snapped by tiny rubber bands. Most people tolerate IPL well and the treatment can be adjusted for your comfort level.
Laser treatments may cause moderate pain. A topical numbing cream can be applied to help make the treatment more comfortable.
Aftercare
We will recommend a comprehensive homecare plan that will help you reach your skincare goals much faster while also giving your skin additional health benefits.
What to do after the procedure?
After every treatment, drink plenty of water and rest. If it’s possible, leave your skin free of makeup for the day. Be sure to use products as directed by your aesthetician.
What not to do after professional acne treatments?
Be sure to avoid direct sun after your treatment. Always apply an SPF of 30-50. We recommend this every day, but especially after acne treatments. Your aesthetician will tell you when it is safe to begin using retinols, exfoliators, or chemical peels.
What to Expect After Acne Therapy
There is no one single answer to this question because acne treatments vary so much. In most cases other than laser treatments, you can expect that your skin will feel soothed and calmed after treatment. You’ll likely notice an immediate difference in your skin tone and texture. In most cases, the skin is smoother and less red and irritated.
Acne treatment results are cumulative, so after multiple sessions, the results of your treatment will be longer lasting.
Is treating acne safe? What are the side effects and contraindications?
Novuskin’s acne treatments are very safe. In most cases, there are not many side effects or complications of treatment. However, your technician will discuss any potential issues that may arise at your treatment. Side effects and contraindications vary depending on which treatment you choose to help control and heal your acneic skin.
Contraindications
Contraindications to acne treatments may include pregnancy and cancer, however, your contraindications to your individual treatment plan should be discussed on a one-on-one basis, since treatment plans can vary.
Side Effects
In most cases, there are no side effects to acne treatments. However, side effects may include redness after treatment that lasts a few hours to a few days. Laser treatments may leave you feeling a bit sleepy. Since treatment plans vary from person to person, be sure to speak to your aesthetician about your specific treatment.
