How PEMF Works:

Our cells communicate with other cells by sending electrical signals to one another. For example, a fibroblast, which is a type of cell in the skin that knows how to produce collagen and elastin fibers, receives signals that tell it when to start and stop producing collagen, the most important protein in our body. When we age, cell communication slows down, so our cells stop functioning optimally, which causes signs of aging like wrinkles.

However, if we can use technology to introduce different signals to our cells, we can create different outcomes.

PEMF is used in conjunction with other therapies. Your complete treatment including magnetic field therapy will have a session time of approximately 30 minutes.

Some pulsed electromagnetic field therapy effects will be seen immediately following your treatment, such as smoother, tighter, firmer skin. If PEMF was used to heal bruising, burns, or scars, you should notive significant healing, even after one treatment. Full effects of your treatment will be seen for 2-4 weeks after your treatment.  Your technician will help develop a treatment plan to help you see your optimal results, and to help you understand what will be needed to maintain your look.

There is no recovery time or downtime for PEMF therapy. You’ll be able to return to your regular activities immediately.

What to do after electromagnetic therapy

Be sure to wear SPF of 30-50 every day for 2 weeks following your treatment. Your skin may be slightly pink after your session, but the flush should disappear within an hour. You may apply cosmetics, but if you don’t have to, your skin will benefit from being freshly cleansed.

What not to do after professional PEMF treatment?

If PEMF was used on your face, please don’t use retinol and other skin care acids for 5 days following your treatment.

You can see results with PEMF immediately following your treatment, such as smoother, tighter, firmer skin. The full effects of your treatment won’t be seen for 2-4 weeks after your treatment. It’s likely you’ll need 8-12 treatments to see your optimal results. Following your completed treatment plan, you’ll continue to see improvements in the look of your skin for 2-4 months. To maintain the look, your aesthetician will develop a treatment plan that may require follow-up treatments.

PEMF is exceptionally safe and there are very few PEMF dangers for good treatment candidates. Because of its two built-in safety features, the treatments and equipment used in your session is very unlikely to cause any type of damage to the skin. 

You should avoid Venus Freeze and Venus Legacy, two treatments that incorporate PEMF if you:

• Have sunburn in the treatment area
• Are pregnant or nursing
• Have a rash, broken skin, or an infection in the treatment area
• Have active cancer or a history of cancer
• Have any disease that may be stimulated by heat (such as herpes)
• Have skin-related autoimmune diseases
• Have a pacemaker or similar implanted electronic devices
• Have metal implants around the treatment area

PEMF Therapy Side Effects

PEMF as a cosmetic treatment rarely causes adverse or negative effects. 

In rare cases, pulsed electro magnetic field therapy complications may cause nausea, headaches, fatigue, and muscle aches due to the influx of cellular oxygen. If this should happen, the effects should go away within a few minutes to a few hours. If you begin to feel any discomfort or illness during your treatment, please inform your aesthetician immediately.
