The PicoWay Laser is an FDA-approved picosecond laser that treats acne scars, wrinkles, benign pigmented lesions (dark spots) and tattoo removal. PicoWay delivers high-powered, extremely short pulses of light one picosecond, or one trillionth of a second, in length. What is a PicoWay treatment?
PicoWay Laser is a safe and minimally-invasive treatment that can be used anywhere on the body to remove tattoo ink or improve the tone and texture of your skin. PicoWay is a picosecond laser, meaning it uses bursts of light one picosecond in length. A picosecond is equivalent to one trillionth of a second, making this laser exceptionally fast and far more effective than traditional q-switch lasers.
What does a PicoWay Laser treatment look like?
When you arrive at your treatment, your technician will remove your makeup or thoroughly cleanse your treatment area. The PicoWay Laser is a handheld device that emits bursts of light over the treatment area. Your technician will carefully trace the laser along the treatment area. If needed, a topical anesthetic will be applied to help control any discomfort and ensure your treatment is pain-free.
Is PicoWay safe? What are the side effects and contraindications?
PicoWay treatments are very safe. Even those with darker skin tones can use PicoWay for all its listed benefits. The laser may cause mild side effects such as redness and slight swelling. Contraindications for PicoWay are few, and your technician can help you decide if PicoWay is the right laser for you.
Who’s a good candidate for a PicoWay treatment?
PicoWay is safe for all skin types and tones, so as long as you meet the criteria for treatment, you’re an excellent candidate for PicoWay.
If you’re planning to use PicoWay to remove an unwanted tattoo, please note that PicoWay is able to remove even the most stubborn ink colors: blue, green, purple, teal, turquoise, and various shades of green can all be dissolved.
How do you prepare?
You don’t need to do anything special to prepare for your treatment. If you can remove makeup prior to treatment, please do.
Aftercare
PicoWay Laser treatments have low to no downtime. Most people can return to their regular activities directly after treatment. You may need a bandage to keep the treatment area dry for a few days following tattoo removal. You must protect yourself from the sun following your treatment, and use an SPF of at least 30 if you’ll be outside.
How soon can you see results from a PicoWay treatment?
You’ll be able to see some immediate results following your treatment. Your results will continue to improve for 2-3 weeks following your treatment. You may require more than one treatment to see optimal results. Your aesthetician will help create a plan of care and speak to you about touch up treatments, if needed.
How long will the results last?
In some cases, results from the PicoWay may be permanent. Tattoo removal and some hyperpigmentation removal may be permanent. Scar removal may also provide permanent results. Anti aging and active acne treatments may not offer permanent results, and you may need ongoing care as often as once a month to keep your symptoms at bay.
What’s the difference between PicoWay and Q-Switch lasers?
The primary difference between a Q-Switch (nanosecond) and PicoWay (picosecond) laser is the speed at which each device projects its bursts of energy. Picosecond lasers deliver energy at a much faster rate. The PicoWay is a medical-grade, FDA-approved laser. Its exceptionally fast pulse allows it to shatter tattoo pigment or hyperpigmentation into much smaller pieces than traditional lasers, making it much easier for the body to digest and remove the pigment.
